Toyota Prius Stereo Upgrade: CarPlay, English and What to Keep

Most Toyota Prius imports in NZ arrive with a Japanese navigation unit that is linked to the hybrid energy display and, in many models, the climate information. That makes a stereo upgrade a little more involved than in most cars, but a double DIN CarPlay and Android Auto unit fits with the right Toyota kit, gives you English menus, and can keep the energy monitor and the reversing camera.

Why the Prius is different

A plain head unit swap can lose the energy monitor or climate display if the car relies on the factory screen for them. The right Toyota fascia kit and adapters keep the new screen flush and those features working. Some grades also have an amplified sound system that needs a matching harness.

Changing the language
