Does Repco or Supercheap Install Car Stereos?
Whether an auto parts or electronics store will fit a car stereo depends on the store. Some offer fitting and others only sell the parts, and what a store offers can vary by location and change over time. So before you buy a head unit from Repco, Supercheap Auto, Jaycar or anywhere else, ask your local store whether they fit it, who does the work, and whether the parts your car needs are included.
Questions to ask before you buy
- Do you fit it at this store? And if not, who do you recommend?
- Is the fitting kit included? Most cars need a fascia kit, a wiring harness and an aerial adapter, and often a steering wheel control interface.
- What about my reverse camera? Some cars need an adapter to keep the factory camera.
- Is there a warranty on the work, as well as on the unit?
- Do I need to leave the car, and for how long?
The parts matter as much as the stereo
A head unit on its own rarely fits a car. The fascia kit makes it sit flush, the harness connects it without cutting the factory wiring, and an interface keeps the steering wheel buttons working. Our guide to fitting a head unit you bought yourself lists what to check before you buy.
Your options in Auckland
- A store that offers fitting: convenient if it fits your car and includes the parts.
- A car audio shop: you take the car to their workshop.
- A mobile installer: the installer comes to your home or work, so you do not drop the car off. See how mobile installation works.
- Doing it yourself: possible on some cars with the right harness and fascia.
Whichever you choose, our guide to choosing a car stereo installer covers what to ask.
